Promoting an offer that is converting poorly can be a very frustrating experience. This can be exemplified if the product itself as a good, viable product, or if other marketers are currently experiencing success promoting that product. You may find yourself looking over your landing site, ads, sales copy, ad copy, link code, and site layout a million and one times, yet never seeing the reason for your poor performance.
In reality, it may be something as simple as a misguided marketing attempt. What I mean is that there are three different ways to sell a product:
The direct way – Making a landing website dedicated to persuade the visitor into purchasing the product or committing the desired action. This type of approach is ideal for topics that are heavily searched for or are easily obtained online, such as web hosting.
The indirect way – Also known as a passive sale, this type of approach is ideal for products that a user may not necessarily associate with purchasing online, or perhaps for products that offer a significant financial or personal cost to the user. You see this type of sales with online casino marketing quite a bit (Poker or Roulette strategies, Casino reviews, etc.)
The beneficial way – This type of sale is made after carefully explaining the benefits to the user. This type of sales strategy is employed quite a bit in automotive sales, where figures such as gas mileage and horsepower are the main type of competition.
Before you pull your affiliate campaign, assess whether or not the type of marketing that you are doing, be it direct, indirect, or beneficial, is suitable for the product that you are promoting. If you are promoting a product that has a low financial cost, an indirect sales strategy will work just fine, whereas a beneficial strategy may bore the visitor and lose the sale.
Getting the sales strategy matched to the product is a great way to increase your conversions. When I am marketing a new product, I set up landing pages that are an example of each type of strategy, and I pull the ones that aren’t performing well. Over time you will begin to point out which type of product should be sold with what type of sales strategy, and the entire process will become natural to you.
One you’ve written you sales copy, read it out loud. Now here comes the kicker: would you buy from your website? Be honest, because if you wouldn’t, I can guarantee that no one else will either.
