Public Internet Marketing Forums

I’ve just read this interesting post about the pros and cons of public affiliate marketing forums and while I agree to some extent with Amit I feel he focusses too much on the bad points and I disagree when he says:

Not only is most of the advice on these forums DEAD wrong…

In my opinion any forum that’s worth reading would have members that would point out if someone was giving bad advice. Maybe he has been visiting the wrong forums!

I think the value of being able to do a few searches and find that someone experienced a similar problem to you and found a solution outweighs many of the negatives of public forums.

And being able to contribute and help people is invaluable in my opinion. (There’s always someone newer to the game than you.)

Unfortunately some forums seem to exist solely for people to promote junk - which if anything is dangerous for a newbie as they get sucked into buying killer product after killer product without actually making any money. From what I’ve seen, the Warrior Forum seems to be like that.

One forum I have found to be both very informative and helpful is WickedFire. There’s some excellent tutorials and friendly, helpful, experienced members. (They don’t tolerate annoying sig spam either!)

Overall, I think public forums are certainly more useful to people new to the game but still valuable to more experienced marketers as there will always be someone who knows more than you do about a certain area of affiliate marketing.

Also, if you are promoting marketing related products by being involved in a public forum you can really get to understand your target audience.

I agree with you, I have learned a lot from some quality forums when I started out.

In retrospect, I did focus too much on the negative! More than anything I wanted to give newbie affiliates a word of warning about where they take their advice from. Perhaps I went a little overboard!
