My Little Digg Experiment

Posted: Si on May 15 | news and views

Ok, this is a bit outdated really - but I’ve been crap at posting here lately and need to get this out of the way!

Upon hearing of the chaos at Digg the other week I knocked up a quick post and submitted it to Digg - it got 98 diggs.

Now any normal day that would be fairly impressive, but on the day of the numbers it was nothing. I had a traffic spike (I was still using Blogger then, so no probs) but that was about it.

A few hours later I hit on a great plan - shame it was too late really - and created this auction on eBay:

The Magic Digg Numbers 09 f9 11 02 9d 74 e3 5b d8 41 56

I submitted it Digg with an affiliate link - just as an experiment. It got just 17 diggs and no eBay affiliate sales… I’d really missed the boat on that one I think!

Anyway, as I’m sure you know the Digg bosses changed their mind, let the numbers be posted and the whole thing blew over.

My experiment really can’t be classed as a success (though I do seem to be getting more visitors here since the Digg thing), but I at least learnt that with something like this you need to get thinking outside the box quickly!
